Guest Lecture on Disability Certification
The Department of Clinical Psychology , IIS (Deemed to be University) Jaipur, organised a Guest Lecture on Disability Certification on June 14th , 2023 in the Seminar Room for the trainees of Professional Diploma in Clinical Psychology (PDCP) (2022-2023) RCI approved course. The speaker for the guest lecture was Ms Poonam Garg who is a Clinical Psychologist at Military Hospital, Jaipur.
Ms Garg started off her session by highlighting the meaning of disability and it’s constructs according to the Indian legal system. In her enlightening session, the speaker talked about the Physical and Psychosocial issues which gets impacted due to disability in individuals.
She made the audience awared about diagnosis and psychodiagnostics conducted according to the Mental Health Act for the same as well. In this, she informed how the Indian government has been putting an effort to help the individuals having disability. She introduced the assessments which are the basis to provide the disability certificates. Also, she enlightens the audience on the procedure of issuing the certificate and the problems which the clinical psychologist gets exposed to during the same procedure.
By the end of the session, the speaker clarified all the major doubts and myths regarding the certification process in India. Participants raised several considerable questions which she answered thoroughly. One of the participants asked whether there is any significant relevance to put adaptive scale before an IQ battery, to which the speaker gave a very informative reply. She explained the different reasons which are effectively crucial in order to understand the individual’s situation. She further added that misinformation which is floated on the internet must be avoided at all costs and authentic sources should be referred instead.
It was a very interesting session wherein the audience got such a delightful opportunity to hear Ms Poonam Garg on Disability Certification. Such enriching affairs are ought to be pondered upon and raised more frequently.
